Bhubaneswar: The agitation across the country has not stopped for 83 days demanding the repeal of the Agriculture Act enacted by the central government. Odisha Pradesh Kisan Congress president Amiya Kumar Patnaik has strongly opposed the government's anti-farmer policies, saying the decision to do so was like "lime" to farmers.
While the state's mandis are not yet strong, the government is again trying to weaken them. It is clear from the state government that the BJP government is supporting the three agricultural bills in the Lok Sabha and sending the religion to the sugarcane selection committee in the Rajya Sabha. Just as the Punjab and Kerala governments have proposed in their legislatures to repeal the Agriculture Act and adopt a legal guarantee system in the MSP for the greater good of the farmers, the Odisha government will never do so in the interest of the farmers. "If the government does not stop, there will be strong protests by the Kisan Congress across the state," he said.
