‘Drink from Tap Mission’ called ‘Sujal’ is launched on 13th October 2020 by the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to provide assured quality drinking water fit for direct consumption from the Tap to all households in urban areas. The Mission is a flagship initiative by Water Corporation of Odisha (WATCO) under the state’s Housing & Urban Development department.

The ‘Drink from Tap Mission’ aims to provide 24 x 7 safe drinking water supply from a tap on-premise along with addressing water source protection, appropriate water treatment & testing as well as prevention of recontamination in the distribution system. This is also aimed at eliminating the requirement of investments by individual households on overhead water tank or underground reservoir, motor pump, RO based water filter and

purchasing mineral water.

After successful completion of pilot projects in 12 zones in Bhubaneswar and Puri cities & after becoming the first State in the country to provide drink from the tap water to people, WATCO is now focussing on to cover entire city of Bhubaneswar and Puri & other cities namely Cuttack, Puri, Khurda Jatni, Berhampur which will be extended to other cities in the state in a phased manner.

What will be done by the central government to beautify and preserve the Puri shrine and its environs will be decided in consultation with all employers, services, locals and stakeholders, said Union Culture and Tourism Minister Prahlad Singh Patel. He said he would come and talk to everyone. Later, BJP members and temple officials met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and thanked him. The Modi government is determined to keep the sentiments and needs of the Puri Shrimandir and its ethics, traditions, services and devotees intact.

Home Minister Shri Shah has promised the delegation that the Shree Gannath temple will not be affected by the Modi government. The delegation discussed the preservation of the Puri Jagannath Temple, the Konark Sun Temple and the Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar. The services have invited the Union Home Minister and the Union Minister of Culture and Tourism to come to Puri.

The meeting was attended by Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Pratap Sadangi, Union Culture Minister Shri Prahlad Singh Patel, National Spokesperson Sambit Patra, State BJP General Secretary Lekhshree Samant Singhar, Brahmagiri MLA Lalithendu Vidyadhar Mohapatra, Puri MLA Jayant Kumar. Basant Pati, Bhimsen Chandan Hazuri, Madhusudan Singhari, Ramchandra Suwar, Bhavani Shankar Das Mohapatra and Somnath Khuntia were present.

Bhubaneswar: The Department of Health and Family welfare, Government of Odisha, will organize a Mass Drug Administration (MDA) round in a phased manner for elimination of Lymphatic Filariasis in 17 endemic districts of the state. In this regards, A virtual media sensitization workshop was organized in the state by the Health department in collaboration with Global Health Strategies. The objective of this workshop was to ensure the dissemination of information highlighting the debility caused by Lymphatic Filariasis, so that people can get accurate information about this serious disease.

Through his video appeal message, Mr. Naba Kishore Das, State Health Minister, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Odisha, appealed to the public to consume anti-filaria drugs administered during MDA program in 17 districts of the state in the presence of the drug administrator. During the workshop, Dr. Shubhashisha Mohanty, State Program Officer, Vector Borne Diseases, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Odisha, said, Keeping in mind India's commitment to eliminate filariasis by 2021 and acknowledging the importance of continuing important public health initiatives, the Government of Odisha Under the National Lymphatic Filariasis Elimination Program, is undertaking MDA rounds in 17 LF endemic districts in phases. 

The MDA rounds will be organized as per COVID-19 guidelines issued by the Government of India. The first phase of the Mass Drug Administration (MDA) program will begin from February 10 to February 19, 2021 and the second phase from February 25 till March 6, 2021. 8 districts that are undertaking MDA from 10 February include Bhadrak, Balasore, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jharasuguda, Khurda, Nuapada and Nayagarh. The districts undertaking MDA in the second phase include Angul, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Kandhamal, Sonepur, Bargarh and Sambalpur.

Dr. Niranjan Mishra, Director, Public Health, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Odisha, stated through a presentation that Filariasis is a serious public health problem which is spread by mosquito bites. Filariasis is one of the leading causes of long-term disability worldwide. However, small side-effects must not outweigh the importance of consuming the anti-filaria drugs. This discomfort is also an indicator that the programme is working.

India’s National Programme for Elimination of Lymphatic Filariasis has a two-pillar strategy: one is mass drug Administration MDA another is morbidity management and disability prevention.

Dr. Bijoy Kumar Panigrahi, Director, Family Welfare, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Odisha, spoke about the benefits of deworming. He said that the preventive drugs administered during MDA such as Albendazole have additional benefits like de-worming, which increases absorption of nutrients in children and helps in their physical and cognitive development Dr. Bijay Mohapatra, Director, Health Services, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Odisha, said, Everyone except children below 2 years, pregnant women and seriously ill people must consume the prescribed dosage during the rounds in the presence of trained health workers.

Dr. Amarendranath Mohanty, Director, State Institute of Health Family Welfare, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Odisha, stated that media plays an important role in disseminating correct information related to public health programmes. He appealed to the media present to extend their full support in making the Mass Drug Administration (MDA) program to further make it a success. Concluding the workshop, Dr. Ajit Kumar Mohanty, Special Secretary to Govt., Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Odisha, stated that only with the support of the community and the media, we will be able to eliminate LF completely.

During this campaign around 60,000 trained volunteers including ASHAs will be engaged as Drug Administrators in all 17 districts. Lastly, Mr. Anuj Ghosh, Director, Global Health Strategies, thanked all participants and emphasized that with the combined efforts of all, we can eliminate the debilitating disease like Lymphatic Filariasis from the state. In this virtual workshop senior officials of Health & Family Welfare Department and State representatives of World Health Organization (WHO) and Project Concern International (PCI) were also present at this media workshop.

Bhubaneswar, The sentiments of the Oriya people are associated with the temples of all the Hindu deities in Odisha. Many temples, including the Puri Shree Gannath Temple and the Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar, are built on religious, social, cultural and historical grounds. State BJP MPs, including Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Pratap Sadangi, today held talks with Union Tourism Minister Prahlad Yoshi in New Delhi to prevent the proposed memorandum from the National Monuments Authority from being implemented.

Union Tourism Minister Prahlad Yoshi immediately revoked the bill, citing the Odisha issue. BJP state president Sameer Mohanty thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Tourism Minister Prahlad Yoshi and two Union ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Pratap Sadangi for prioritizing the interests of Odisha and the sentiments of Oriya devotees.

Mr. Mohanty said the BJP has always attached importance to the interests of the Oriya people. The BJP is taking steps to address the issue, especially if there are any problems related to Shri Jagannath's temple. Earlier, the state BJP had made a number of efforts to preserve the tradition of thousands of years after the state government intervened in the procession of Chaturdhamurtha in Puri during the Karona, and in the end the procession was made without devotees.

NEW DELHI. Delhi-based Odia intellectuals’ forum, The Intellects, has announced the recipients of the Prabasi Bhasha Samman for 2021. This year, 12 noted personalities with immense contribution to various aspects of Odia language and culture will be conferred these awards.

The names were finalized by a three member jury committee, consisting of noted columnist and commentator Dr Bhagaban Prakash, Sarala Das Odia Chair Professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University Dr.Udayanath Sahoo, and noted Odia poet and former ambassador of India to Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay Dr AmarendraKhatua.The jury meeting, convened by Shri Debendra Nath Rout, the chairman of The Intellects was also attended by Mrs Kuku Das, president of Odisha Society of America and chairperson, Global Odisha Foundation; Dr Subasini Barik,Asso. Professor of Philosophy; Delhi University, and the secretary of The Intellects, Shri Shyamanuja Das.

The awards will be conferred on 21 February 2021, the concluding day of the annual festival of mother language, LangFest 2021. This year, a new category of honour, the Stambha Samman, has been instituted for significant

contribution to columns in Odia newspapers and magazines. This is the first time that such an honour has been instituted in Odia. The recipient of the first honour will be Shri Soumya Ranjan Pattnaik, the founder and editor-in-chief of Odia daily Sambad.

Other recipients of the Bhasha Samman 2021 will be Odissi music exponent ShrimatiShyamamani Devi; noted Odissi dance exponent Dr Ileana Citaristi; popular and prolific Odia novelist Shri Bhagirathi Das; literary organizer and author Er. Prabhakar Swain; noted journalist Shri Pradyumna Satapathy, well-known translator Dr Jatin Nayak; noted linguist Dr HaraprasadMishra; the one-man archivist of Odia music, Dr Saroj Singh; international Odia manuscript expert, Dr Asharani Das; noted artist Shri BijayBiswaal; and Prashant Bhunya, working abroad for promotion of Odia language and literature.

In the organizational category, the organizations working for Odia language are conferred the Bhasha Samman. This year, it will be conferred on IFFCO Paradeep; Odia newspaper Prameya; Gyanamandal Foundation, managing Odia encyclopaedia Gyanamandal; and Koraput Sahitya Mahotsav, working towards promoting literary exchanges in interior regions. In addition, The Intellects honours, youth talent working towards popularizing Odia language and culture among youth. This year, the recipients will be Rapper Big Deal (Samir Rishu Mohanty), the person behind the popular Mun Heli Odia rap song; Natia YouTube cartoon channel; and Twitter handle Gajapati (Bishnu Mohan Adhikari).

The awards will be conferred virtually through an online conference on 20-21 February, due to the prevailing pandemic situation. The event, being organized jointly by the Intellects and the Global Odisha Foundation, would see participation of representatives from Odias from more than 40 countries. It will also have participation of experts from other Indian languages, including all six classical languages.

Bhubaneswar: The Congress should give moral support to the Peasant Movement for the repeal of the three Arts and Agriculture Laws enacted by the Central Government and immediately repeal it. Dhenkanal District Kisan Congress President Biprabar Sahu presided over a rally at Ramakrishnapur near Bhubaneswar in Dhenkanal district today under the call of the PCC Kisan Congress against the central BJP and state BJD government's policy of killing farmers.

The farmer Mahapanchayat was made the secretary of the All India Congress Committee and in-charge of Odisha. Rudra Raju inaugurated the event as the chief guest and said that in the coming days, farmers' mahapan panchayats would be held at all district levels in the state and there would be strong protests against agriculture and farmers of both the BJP and BJD governments. Today, the Narendra Modi government continues to deceive the country's food donors.

"It simply came to our notice then. This government is not in the interest of the farmers but in the interests of the capitalists. A blazing example of this has been in the cold for four days, with farmers' unions demanding the repeal of the Black Agriculture Act, but it is unfortunate that the government has turned a blind eye to it.

Odisha Pradesh Kisan Congress president Shri Amiya Patnaik attended the function and criticized the central government for not having a reasoned discussion with the farmers' organization about the new agricultural policy. The Prime Minister himself has questioned where the increase in the price of agricultural products has doubled on the basis of Swaminathan’s recommendations in the two general elections.

The state government has demanded the repeal of the law, the provision of legal guarantees to the MSP and the purchase of all surpluses by the farmers without the adoption of a two-pronged policy and a bonus of Rs 500 per MSP per quintal of paddy. PCC vice-president Shuvendu Mohanty, Dhenkanal district Congress president Saroj Patnaik, state Kisan Congress vice-president Umesh Sahu and senior Congress leaders from various blocs addressed the gathering.

Bhubaneswar, On the thirteenth day of the tribal life, the Mahakumbh Adivasi Mela, which was held at the Adivasi Exhibition Grounds in the capital, reached its thirteenth day today. From 11 a.m. onwards, there was a long queue of interested people from the tribal grounds, and after registration, crowds gathered at various stalls to buy their own household items. The main attraction of the fair this time around is the pavilion of a rare photograph based on tribal public life.

Opened by the state government's Information and Public Relations Department, the beautiful pavilion, which features 42 indigenous social customs, cultural life, costumes and jewelery, from the state's indigenous people, captures the audience for a moment. Indigenous women in the Banda, Gadba, Durua, Kutia Kandha, Dangria Kandha and Lanjia Saura categories, in particular, wear their traditional costumes and jewelery, hand-to-hand, shoulder-to-shoulder and immersed in traditional dance music. Don't get me wrong.

It reflects the vividness of the culture and dance of the dance beau tribe. Today, some of the most beautiful photographs of the tribals of our state moving out of the deep darkness of poverty and backwardness towards civilization and development can be found in the section entitled "Our Tribes in the Stream of Life". Similarly, the section titled ‘Distinct Diversity’ reflects some of the daily lifestyles and cultural traditions of different tribes. The government is continuing its efforts to provide education to the tribal children of the state.

Some of the pictures of how many indigenous children have come to the school grounds and eagerly participated in the lessons are placed in the mandapa. While Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has visited the Adivasi Mela in the past, photos of the special moments he spent with tribal children and women have been very impressive. Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation, took the social and economic development of the oppressed and tribal people as the key to life.

So his big picture is adorned near the entrance to the mandapa. Just below the picture of Gandhiji in the hut of a poor man is his immortal statement - ‘The overall development of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes is another of my resolutions,’ which is quite influential to the audience.
