Talks between Odisha Chief Minister and Union Minister on highway projects in Odisha

New Delhi / Bhubaneswar, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Union Roads and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, and senior officials of the Center and the state government held a video conference on Tuesday to discuss the issue of the Prime Minister's East Coast Mission. The state government has promised to set aside and approve the Coastal Highway alignment and its progress, which is set to become the lifeline of the coastal region of Odisha at a cost of Rs 9,000 crore.

The completion of the Coastal Highway, the largest highway project in Odisha, will accelerate the tourism industry, as well as facilitate fish farming, food processing, logistics and warehousing. The meeting discussed the Bhubaneswar Ring Road project. In particular, the meeting discussed the proposed 300-kilometer-long economic corridor between Paradip and Baddabil. The road starts from Paradip. Chandikhola-Duburi-Kendujhar-Rimuli will end at Badbil through Badarsahi. The proposed economic corridor will play a key role in the development of the country's largest Kalinganagar steel cluster, including Chandikhola.

The highway will also have a lot of potential for the Duburi area and for the steel, coal, iron and aluminum sectors. In addition to strengthening the local economy, it will also play a major role in creating employment opportunities for young people. The Prime Minister's pre-eminence plan prioritizes the rapid development of the port-based industry in Odisha. In this context, emphasis was placed on the proposed highway projects connecting Dhamra to port-based development in Dhamra. Union Minister Shri Pradhan opined that the roads connecting Gopalpur port, Subarnarekha proposed port were also discussed at the meeting.

The virtual meeting focused on the progress of various highways projects being implemented, especially in Odisha, while other proposed projects were discussed. Various major highway projects in Odisha, such as the Panikoili-Remuli section of the NH-20 under the Kendujhar National Highway Project, the NH-4 Singra Binbahal section, the proposed economic corridors, Paradip, Badbil, Paradip. 8-lane express line between Chandikhola, Chandikhola Duburi, Duburi-Kendujhar Road, Kendujhar-Rimuli, Rimuli-Bhadrasahi, Bhadrasahi-Badbil, Bhubaneswar-Puri and Dhamra, Gopalpur, Shubarnarekha on the road connection from the port to Jayaprishna and Subarnarekha. The highway project was discussed.
