Importance of Mr. Asit Tripathi, Chief Adviser on Agriculture and Agricultural Marketing

Bhubaneswar, Asit Tripathi, Chief Adviser to the Chief Minister and Chairman of the West Odisha Development Council, has emphasized on the development of agricultural enterprises and agricultural marketing in rural areas to increase the income of farmers. Mr. Tripathi issued the order after reviewing plans for agricultural development. During the review meeting held at the Krishi Bhavan, Additional Chief Secretary and Shri Raj Kumar Sharma of the Agricultural Production Commission presented the necessary infrastructure for the development of the agriculture and allied sectors.

Reviewing various programs, Chief Adviser Shri Tripathi said that each district has unique resources and potential. Accordingly, encouraging the industry will increase the income of the farmers as well as attract the new generation of young people. Mr. Tripathi added that due to the favorable business environment and abundance of agriculture in the state, private small and medium enterprises have been started in the districts under the West Odisha Council. By providing the right support to these entrepreneurs as per their needs, it will be possible to increase private investment and create new employment opportunities and economic development.

He encouraged ordinary people as well to take part in solving this great task: "One of the things you and other people can do is keep up the pressure ... there are going to be some difficult decisions for government". Mr. Tripathi directed the Department of Agriculture and Farmer Empowerment to create the necessary infrastructure to provide loans, technical advice and market connectivity to these enterprises, which were built on private initiative. Informing about the current state of agricultural development, Dr Sourav Garg, Chief Secretary to the Department, said that the Chief Minister's Agricultural Entrepreneurship Scheme has been implemented in all the districts with the state Agriculture Regulator-2020. All aspects of development in agriculture and allied sectors are covered by the scope of these regulations and schemes.

At present, the state cultivates a variety of crops on a total of 71.60 lakh hectares. Of this, 13.60 lakh hectares are under fruit and orchard cultivation. There are 36 food processing plants, 36 lemon oil and 14 cashew processing plants in the state. The list is compiled by surveying "one product per district". Mr. Muthukumar, Director, Agriculture, said that the Chief Minister's Agricultural Enterprise Scheme is subsidizing up to Rs 5 million.

It covers about 83 types of agricultural projects. To date, 365 manufacturing companies have been subsidized. In the current financial year 2020-21, 113 units have been given a subsidy of Rs 4 crore. All of these industries have created new employment opportunities for 545 people.
