Bhubaneswar: The National Handloom Fair organized by Boynika at the Unit-3 Exhibition Grounds in Bhubaneswar has been inaugurated today under the auspices of Epidemic Covid-19. The fair, which began on January 20, ended today after a long 29-day journey. The National Handloom Fair was especially popular among customers. The attractive decor of the fair, especially the open space within the fair, encouraged customers to walk around the fair and shop at the stalls.

The fair saw a turnover of over Rs 9 crore, with only Boynika making a turnover of Rs 1.51 crore, while Odisha handloom worth about Rs 3 crore was sold. Bhubaneswar,National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), the Navratna PSU, under Ministry of Mines, Govt. of India and country’s leading manufacturer and exporter of alumina and aluminium, clocked a net profit of Rs.240 crores for the 3 rd quarter ended December 2020. The net profit has jumped by 123 % over the previous quarter of current fiscal, which was Rs.107 crore.

The net profit for the nine months ended December 2020 has grown more than ten-fold to Rs.364 crore as against Rs.35 crore in corresponding period of last year. The total income in Q3 of FY21 witnessed substantial growth, clocking Rs.2,415 crores compared to Rs.2,137 crores in Q3 of FY20.

On sales front, the net sales of alumina hydrate for Q3 of FY21 was 3.44 lakh tonnes compared to 3.33 lakh tonnes achieved in the corresponding period of last year. Aluminium export also registered impressive growth, with sales volume of 1.38 lakh tonnes during the first nine months of FY21 as compared to 0.50 lakh tonnes during the

same period of FY20.

On production front, the Company achieved strong growth in Q3 of FY21, with Bauxite production of 19.34 lakh tonnes, Alumina hydrate production of 5.55 lakh tonnes while metal production achieved was 1.02 lakh tonnes. During the first nine months of the current fiscal, NALCO achieved production of 53.48 lakh tonnes of bauxite, 15.07 lakh tonnes of alumina hydrate while metal production was 3.06 lakh tonnes.

On 08.01.21, a mega traffic block of 8 hrs was taken to connect UP existing main line to R3 of Angul. The work involved heavy machineries to be deployed for cut and connection work. Excellent unison and synchronization was seen between different departments of Railways.

On completion of the NI work, speed trial with inspection special train fitted with OMS 2000 hauled by Electric Locomotive was conducted between Kerjung and Angul section at a maximum speed of 110 kmph. Based on the speed trials, inspections, and interpretation of OMS results and by utilizing the power delegated to the Chief Commissioner of railway Safety, by section 28 of Indian Railway Act, the broad gauge line has been sanctioned for passenger and goods upto a maximum speed of 100 kmph.

General Manager East Coast Railways Sh Vidya Bhusan, has congratulated the entire team for showing the determination and grit for the completion of the work.

East Coast Railway has carried 150.86 million tonne of freight traffic up to 10th January, 2021 of the current financial year, i.e. from 1st April, 2020 and became the 1st Zonal Railway to reach 150 MT freight loading in the current fiscal.

Up to 10th January, 2021 of the current financial year; East Coast Railway has carried 84.10MT of Coal, 20.50MT of Iron Ore, 13.03mt of Iron & Steel, 5.67mt of raw materials for Steel Plants, 5.30mt of fertilizer, 2.29mt of container, 2.05mt of food grains, 2.03mt of Petroleum Products and 15.88mt of other commodities.

In last 10 days, i.e. from 1st to 10th January, 2021, East Coast Railway has carried 6.58 million tonne of freight registering a growth of 15.6% from the corresponding period of last year, i.e. from 1st to 10th January, 2020. From 1st to 10th January, 2020, East Coast Railway had loaded 5.69 million tonne of freight traffic.

East Coast Railway has carried 20.53 million tonne of freight in the month of December, 2020 only of the current financial year by increasing 11.8% more than the corresponding period of 2019. In December, 2019, ECoR has loaded 18.36 million tonne of freight. 

Up to the end of December, 2020 of the current financial year; East Coast Railway has carried 144.25MT of freight. This include 80.50MT of Coal, 19.50MT of Iron Ore, 12.44mt of Iron & Steel, 5.25mt of raw materials for Steel Plants, 5.16mt of fertilizer, 2.21mt of container, 1.93mt of food grains, 1.95mt of Petroleum Products and 14.77mt of other commodities.

To achieve this loading figure, East Coast Railway has utilised 9945 Wagons per day in December, 2020 as against 8864 wagons during the correspondence period of last financial year. Similarly, up to the end of December, 2020; East Coast Railway has utilised about 7899 wagons per day from 1st April, 2020 and aims to load more rakes to achieve the goal.

This has been achieved despite lockdown and closure & less workforce in industries and in mineral units under East Coast Railway jurisdiction. To get this remarkable performance, East Coast Railway has utilized its manpower and rolling stock items with proper planning and coordination with Govt Sectors and Industries.

The Union Minister appreciated the dedication, hard work of the management and employees for continuing their efforts for optimizing production and productivity, particularly during the last few months wherein there has been a slump in metal prices and onset of COVID 19 pandemic. On this occasion, the Hon’ble Union Minister Shri Joshi also stressed on the fact that there exists a huge scope for increasing the per capita consumption of Aluminium in the country and it is the right time for the Indian Aluminium industries to ramp up their production and leverage this opportunity. 

“The annual consumption is stated to grow many fold with demand picking up under Government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative in sectors like power, building construction, packaging, automobile manufacturing and transportation”, he said.

On NALCO’s growth plans, he said that, for NALCO to remain a significant contributor in the alumina and aluminium sectors, it is essential that NALCO must go for its planned expansion, with an estimated investment of around Rs. 30,000 Crores in the next 7 - 8 years. “This will help the company for its sustainability and competitiveness. 

Moreover, Aluminium industry being one of the fastest growing sector among all metals has the potential to attract huge investments in the near future”, he added.

“The Rs. 30,0000 Crores expansion plan of NALCO, spread over the next 7 – 8 years will include the expansion of its Refinery by one million tonne capacity, adding 3.5 million tonne capacity Pottangi bauxite mines and operationalization of Utkal D & E Coal Blocks. Further to this, enhancement of Aluminium Smelting capacity by 0.5 million tonne and Captive Power Plant by another approximately 1200 MW through brownfield expansions at Angul district of Odisha has been envisaged in this growth plan”, he added.

Worth mentioning that NALCO is in the advanced stage of obtaining mine opening permission after execution of lease deed for 2 MTA of Utkal D coal block in the 1st quarter of 2021-22. Further, Hon. Minister added that all clearances have been given by MOEFCC to Utkal-D Coal Block. Similarly the company is concurrently in the process of obtaining statutory clearances for 2 MTA of Utkal E coal block with a plan to open the mine in 2022-23. 

The Hon’ble Minister appreciated the fact that in spite of all odds, NALCO has met 75% of its CAPEX target for the FY 2021-22 within 31 st December 2020.

Addressing the occasion, Shri Sridhar Patra, CMD, highlighted the company’s significant performance in last fiscal, wherein he shared about the export earnings of NALCO that accounted for about 59% of the sales turnover in the 1st half of this financial year. 

He also informed regarding caustic soda plant that has been set up in JV with Gujarat Alkalies & Chemicals Ltd, which. is likely to be commissioned in early part of 2021-22 and this will secure a steady supply of caustic soda to NALCO. Shri Sridhar Patra thanked the Hon’ble Minister and the Ministry of Mines for their wholehearted support in all endeavours of NALCO. 

He also thanked the state Government for the support extended by them for fast tracking the completion of various projects including the 5 th stream Refinery at Damanjodi. Shri Sridhar Patra attributed the performance of NALCO to the team work and dedication of all employees and cooperation of various stakeholders.

Hon’ble Union Minister Shri Pralhad Joshi unfurled “The Employee of the Month Scheme”, a motivational scheme for improving employee performance. Also, the ‘Best Performing employees’ of NALCO were rewarded on the occasion.

Bhubaneswar, The Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) has made a profit by selling Tata companies to companies like Cesco, Southco and Wesco in violation of all policy rules. "It is against the interests of the people of the state," said Pradeep Majha, the acting president of the state Congress. "It is also a dictatorship in capitalism," Majha told a news conference at the state congressional office. According to Section 21 of the Electricity Act 2003, it is difficult to say that a builder cannot sell one company to two companies.

Similarly, Section 40 of the Electricity Act states that no single private entity can control all electricity markets. It is alleged that the ambassador provided the information to Hussein. At the time of the sale, 10 percent of the employees' shares had been illegally liquidated. In this regard, the state government has also paved the way for private companies by promoting the OERC.

Even now the government and the OERC have licensed the Tata company. Has ignored the interests of the people of the state. Mr Majha demanded the immediate repeal of the illegal act in the interest of the people of the state. As the country is now in the midst of a crowded crisis, it is highly unfortunate that the regulatory commission is urgently calling on private companies.

The motive is to show sympathy for the Tata company by ignoring the advice of others in this regard. "The arrears on various industries need to be recovered soon and the people of the state need to enact a new law like Suhaila," he said. Rashmi Mohapatra, Sritirekha Pahi and lawmaker Akash Bhuyan were present at the press conference.

It has been decided to revise the timings of all three Rajdhani Special Trains from Bhubaneswar at Koderma Railway Station under East Central Railway jurisdiction w.e.f. 9th January, 2021 onwards as per the following_

A. 02855 Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Special Rajdhani Express via Angul, Sambalpur City, Jharsuguda and Rourkela from Bhubaneswar on every Saturdays w.e.f. 9th January, 2021 will arrive at Koderma Station at 2058hrs and will leave at 2100hrs towards New Delhi instead of earlier arrival time at 2133hrs & departure time at 2135hrs.

B. 02825 Bhubaneswar-New Delhi-Bhubaneswar Special Rajdhani Express via Adra from Bhubaneswar on every Wednesdays & Sundays w.e.f. 10th January, 2021 and 02823 Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Special Rajdhani Express via Tata from Bhubaneswar on every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday w.e.f. 11th January, 2021 will arrive at Koderma Station at 2058hrs and will leave at 2100hrs towards New Delhi.There will be no change of timings of these above trains at all other Stations.

With the union budget-making process getting underway, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman held her first pre-budget consultation with top industrialists on Monday. The meeting assumed importance as it would bring industry and government together to identify critical areas of reform that would pave the way for reinvigorating growth in the economy hit hard by the pandemic this year.

The ideas from the industry would go as valuable inputs for government budgetary exercise for FY22. Sources said that the who’s who of India Inc., including Uday Kotak from Kotak Mahindra Bank, Biocon’s Kiran Majumdar Shaw attended the meeting organised through video conferencing.

Along with Finance Minister, Finance Secretary A.B. Pandey, Secretary, DEA, Tarun Bajaj, Chief Economic Advisor K. Subramanian besides other senior officials were also present in the meeting.
