New Delhi, PM Cares (Prime Ministers Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situation) fund has provided an additional 162 dedicated press swing absorption (PSA) medical oxygen preparations at various government health centers across the country.
Out of the total project cost, Rs 137.33 crore will be spent on the supply of plants and start-ups and the management fee of the Central Medical Supply Store (CMSS). A detailed annual maintenance contract of Rs 64.25 crore will be made. The material will be procured by the Central Medical Supply Store (CMSS), an independent body under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
A total of 162 plants with a total capacity of 154.19 million tonnes will be connected in 32 states / union states (Companion-I). Government hospitals to be connected to the plant have been selected in consultation with the respective states / union states. The warranty of these plants will last for the first three years. The CMC (Comprehensive Annual Management Agreement) has been provided for the project for the next 7 years.
Regular management and maintenance will be done by hospitals / states. Hospitals / states will be responsible for the full management and maintenance of the CMC. This will make the public health system stronger. In addition, the availability of affordable medical oxygen can be increased.
Continuous oxygen supply is essential in the case of general and severe COVID-19. Oxygen use is also required for other health problems. It is an important step to connect a specific PSA oxygen production plant to government hospitals. This will increase their ability to generate their own oxygen and they will have a way to store and supply it where needed.
This will increase the total oxygen availability pool of states and union states as well as help in the timely supply of oxygen to patients in government health centers.
