Nandankanan Zoo celebrates 61st founding day, master plan worth Rs 400 crore for next 20 years

A master plan of Rs 400 crore has been prepared for the improvement of the Nandankanan Zoo and sent to the Central Zoo Authority for approval. The money will be invested in the next 20 years to make Nandankanan a world-class zoo, said Forest and Environment Minister Vikram Keshari Arukh.

3rd Koraput Literary Festival Inaugurated in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The two-day third edition of Koraput Literary Festival (KLF) organised by Odia Media Private Limited was inaugurated today at Hotel New Marrion Bhubaneswar. The two-day event was inaugurated by Odia language, Literature and Culture minister Jyoti Prakash Panigrahi.

Two eminent authors, Dr Padmaj Paul and Sri Amaresh Pattnaik received Koraput Literary Award for 2020. Each were awarded with a cash prize of 21,000 rupees, a certificate, memento and uttariya. Popular novelist Dr Bibhuti Patnaik and celebrated poet Sri Haraprasad Das also joined as guest at the inaugural event. Odisha state launches KHUSHI Scheme To Provide Free Sanitary Pads

Monitoring of Kerezang Anugul doubling work by the Chief Railway Protection Commissioner

Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) Shri Shailesh Kumar Pathak inspected the Kerejang-Angul Doubling section of 13.51 km on 28.12.20 in the presence of Shri D. P. Lal, Chief Administrative Officer (Construction) of East Coast Railway, Divisional Railway Manager, Khurda Road Shri S. K. Singh, Chief Project Manager, Sambalpur Shri A. S. Obheroi and other senior officials from ECoR headquarters and Divisional headquarters from Khurda Road & Sambalpur Divisions.

The inspection started at 1000hrs and continued till 1600hrs. The inspection involved different Points & crossings, curves, Level Crossings, Over Head Equipments (OHEs), Signal & Telecommunication equipments. Shri Pathak had also checked different safety aspects rigorously along with all the important points related to Safety of train movements.

During the inspection, Speed trial was conducted at 110kmph from Kerejang-Angul. There is high likelihood of getting authorization at 80kmph. The doubling works between Kerjang and Angul will be commissioned after receiving safety clearance from CRS.

State Level Workshop on Child Sexual Abuse and Online Safety Organised by PECUC

It is also necessary to incorporate life skill education in the school curriculum and counselling in family level to increase awareness was said by the expert joined in the dissemination workshop on child sexual abuse and online safety.

The study was done in the Khordha district. People’s Cultural Centre (PECUC), a leading voluntary organisation of Odisha in collaboration with Adoptionscentrum organised this workshop on Child Sexual Abuse and Online Safety on virtual platform. More than 70 participants joined in this workshop. Dr. Minakhi Panda, Chairperson PECUC presided over the workshop and Ms. Anuradha Mohanty,

Executive Director of PECUC gave the welcome address and shared the purpose. She also gave a brief introduction about the study which was done lockdown period. Ms. Ruby Rout, Country Director of Adoptionscenturm presented the finding of the report. She said not only girls but boys are also sexually abused and the problem is the children can’t express it freely to parents and guardians.

The problem increased during the time of lockdown due to the increased involvement of children in the online. For this awareness is necessary and also essential to create a fear free environment for children. Joining as panellist Smt. Amita Pattnaik, Joint Director, OSEPA said that more children are studying through online. So the teachers should interact frequently with the children and they should bridge the gap and should try to raise their confidence so that the children can discuss their problem with them. Mr. Pritikant Panda, Program Manager, SCPS, Odisha discussed about the different facilities available in districts for the children.

He encouraged the children to be brave and to use internet safely by taking all the online safety measures. Smt. Madhumita Das, Consultant, W&CD Dept. Govt. of Odisha discussed about the POCSO act and also stressed importance on life skill education in School. She also said awareness begins from home and the parents should be conscious about it.
