Centenary of Gandhi's arrival in Odisha and protection of the state's culture, heritage and traditions

Bhubaneswar, An inter-ministerial meeting was held today in Bhubaneswar to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation, and to protect the culture, heritage and traditions of the state. It included Oriya Language, Literature and Culture Minister Shri Jyoti Prakash Panigrahi, Finance Minister Shri Niranjan Pujari, Minister of Higher Education Dr. Arun Kumar Sahu, Minister for Schools and Mass Education Shri Sameer Ranjan Das, Minister for Textiles and Handicrafts Mrs. Pahini Dian were present on the occasion. Giving preliminary information, Culture Minister Shri Panigrahi called on others to respond to some of the proposals made by the Department of Culture to commemorate the centenary of Gandhiji's arrival in Odisha.

The Odisha Sahitya Akademi has been asked to take steps to maintain contact with the Department of Schools and Mass Education to prepare and place the writings of great men in the syllabus at the school and college level. Elected Gandhi plays will be staged in each district. Similarly, the Ushma Academy will organize mushers, poetry conferences, and essay competitions.

A special cultural discussion on Gandhi will be conducted by the Odisha State Archives. In addition, special Gandhi specials will be published in colorful children's writings. Similarly, the Odisha State Museum will hold a seminar on setting up a special Gandhi Gallery in the museum and the relevance of Gandhi's arrival in Odisha. During Gandhi's visit, photos of Gandhi's sons-in-law were commented on, and comments were made on the publication of a Thai coffee table booklet on Odisha and Gandhi. He also proposed the publication of books on Gandhi, "Gandhi's Thoughts on Odisha", "Gandhi in Letters", "Gandhi's Commentary on the Sons of Odisha", "Special Gandhi Specialists in Konark", "Gandhi in Children's Minds".

The Legislative Assembly is proposing to set up a huge wooden artifact, to make and display a Gandhi painting on a 500-foot-long canvas. The Chief Secretary of the Department, Shri Vishnupad Sethi, directed that the necessary budget be prepared and finalized during the inter-departmental schedule. Finance Minister Shri Pujari stressed the need for further discussion on this. At the beginning of the meeting, the program was presented at the House by the Director of Culture, Mr. Ranjan Kumar Das, while the Chief Secretary, Tourism, Mr. Vishal Deb, Mr. Pratap Kumar Mishra, Joint Secretary, Schools and Mass Education, Mr. Manambini Sahu, Joint Secretary, were present.
