Bhubaneswar, Today Chief Secretary Shri Suresh Mohapatra, Secretary to the Chief Minister (5T), Shri V.K. Pandian and Special Secretary, Department of Sports and Youth Services, Mr. R Vinil Krishna Rourkela visited the proposed International Hockey Stadium to be built on the BPUT premises. It is targeted to be completed by the middle of 2022.

Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik last month announced the construction of an international hockey stadium in Rourkela. The Chief Minister also announced that the new stadium would be one of the venues for the 2023 Men's Hockey World Cup to be held in Odisha on January 2023. It will be the largest hockey stadium in the country and can seat 20,000 spectators at the same time. The proposed stadium, to be built on the BPUT campus, is being designed to provide a world-class experience to both players and spectators.

The goal is to build it as the world's most modern and connected hockey stadium. It will have a main pitch with food lights, a practice pitch, gym hydro therapy, a media center, a wireless center, a park and a variety of facilities for spectators. Sundergarh district is famous for hockey players. The state government has taken steps to build this world-class stadium in honor of Sundargarh's great contribution to Indian hockey.

The stadium will be a major venue in Rourkela and Sundergarh districts. The Chief Secretary and the Chief Minister's Secretary (5T) discussed the project with the Special Secretary of the Sports Department. The project will be presented to the Chief Minister soon.
