Niranjan calls on government to make Odisha drug-free on Gandhiji's death anniversary

Bhubaneswar, Utkal Pradesh Committee of the Indian National Congress was formed in 1920 and its first chairman was Utkalmani Pandit Gopbandhu Das. That same year, Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation, first came to Odisha. Mahatma Gandhi visited Odisha a total of four times and first visited it in March 1920. PCC president Niranjan Patnaik announced at a press conference today that Mahatma Gandhi's first visit to Odisha and the 100th anniversary of the Utkal Congress would be celebrated with great fanfare.

The state government has decided to celebrate Mahatma Gandhi's centenary in Odisha. The final version of which has not yet been released. The Odisha Freedom Fighters Committee has also called on Gandhi to celebrate the centenary of his arrival in Odisha. He encouraged ordinary people as well to take part in solving this great task: "One of the things you and other people can do is keep up the pressure ... there are going to be some difficult decisions for government".

Mahatma Gandhi spoke out against the anti-drug movement and the independence movement. Mr Patnaik called on the state government to declare Odisha "night-free" on January 30, the day of Gandhi's death, if he really wanted to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi. The 100th anniversary of the arrival of the Congress party and Gandhiji in Odisha will be celebrated in various ways at the state, district and block levels.

Mr. Patnaik said that year-round seminars, walks, training camps, etc. on the country's freedom struggle, the biography and sacrifices of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, the contribution of the Congress to the development of the country, etc. would be organized. Provincial Congress Committee spokesperson Shri Sudarshan Das and Gyandeva Beura were present at the press conference.
