Planning Board is concerned about the modified design of the Coastal Highway

Bhubaneswar, A high-level meeting on the progress of the Bharatmala (Coastal Highway) project from Gopalpur to Digha was held in the conference room of the Public Works Department at Lok Seba Bhavan at 11.30 am today. Hon'ble Union Minister Nitin Gadkari of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways was present during the 2015 reshuffle. The highway will be built soon.

It was hoped that the construction of the highway would make a significant contribution to Odisha's tourism and trade. After much deliberation, the decision was taken on November 15, 2017 under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary and the state government approved the construction of a 360-km coastal highway (Bharatmal) in the first phase. The state government has approved the construction of the coastal highway from Satpada in Puri district to Puri-Konark-Astaranga-Ratpur-Dhamra-Basudebpurchandipur to Digha.

At today's meeting, the Chief Manager of the National Highways Authority, Dr. Ramprasad Panda was present at the meeting and the Expert Advisory Committee (Expert Advisory Committee), constituted by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the Ministry of Forests, Environment and Climate Change, proposed a new alignment (Greenfield). Gave. Shri Sanjay Kumar Dasbarma, Deputy Chairman, State Planning Board, expressed his concern over the decision of the Central Government and said that the Union Government had taken a new approach to the project four years after the Union Minister's announcement.

At today's meeting, the Administrative Secretary of the Department of Public Works, Dr. Kishan Kumar, Additional Secretary to the Government, Shri H.K. Dutt, the general manager of the National Highways Authority, said. Ramprasad Panda, Highway Chief Engineer Ranjit Kumar Sahu, Chief Engineer of the Road Department Mr. Manoranjan Mishra and the state. Mr. Abhay Kumar Mohanty, Deputy Secretary, Planning and Coordination, was present.
