May the National Chilean Bird Festival be a success - Chief Minister

Bhubaneswar, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said the National Chilean Bird Festival was a success. Inaugurating the 3rd National Chilean Bird Festival today, Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik said that Odisha is rich in resources and beauty with the blessings of Lord Jagannath. It is not only a pilgrimage site for devotees, but also a gathering place for more than one million species of exotic birds. Their annual visit to Chile, the largest lake in Asia, is very interesting.

Welcoming the national Chilean bird festival, Chief Minister Shri Patnaik said that the unique efforts of Odisha Tourism and Ecotour in Odisha were commendable. Mr Patnaik said tourists would be delighted to visit the state's Satkoshia Gand, Bhitarkanika National Park, Chandka Dampada Sanctuary and other attractions. Minister of Forests and Environment, Parliamentary Affairs Shri Vikram Keshari Arukh, who was the guest of honor at the event held at the Convention Center at Lok Seba Bhavan, said Lake Chilika was recognized as the country's first Ramsar in 171. Why only our state, Chile has a special place among the wetlands all over the world.

It would not be an exaggeration to say that Lake Chilika is the spirit of Odisha tourism. Lake Chilika has a reputation as the largest refuge for exotic birds in the Asian subcontinent. It is a unique feature of Chile over the winter, when more than 1.2 million birds of about 180 species have come to Mars, ranging from distant Siberia to thousands of kilometers from all corners of the globe. The national Chilean bird festival, which prioritizes bird tourism, will be attended by bird experts to raise awareness about bird hunting, a wide range of information on exotic birds coming to Chile and a variety of valuable bird conservation tips.

Joining the festival as one of the distinguished guests, the Minister of Oriya Language, Literature and Culture and Tourism, Mr. Jyoti Prakash Panigrahi, said that if more and more bird-lovers come to the National Chilean Bird Festival, they will become the tourism ambassadors for the state. Chief Secretary Suresh Kumar Mohapatra said it was important for 55 bird lovers from across the state and beyond to register to enjoy the festival.

Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Forests and Environment, Drs. Mona Sharma opined that Odisha is indeed India’s paradise in terms of environmental tourism. A video film was shown on Chile. Mr. Sachin Ramchandra Yadav, Deputy Director General of Forests and Mr. Sachin Ramchandra Yadav, Director of Tourism on behalf of the State Forest and Environment Department, Chief Forest Conservator, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the purpose of excellence in nature and environmental tourism.

The ceremony was graced by former Chief Forest Officer Dr. Ajit Patnaik, Dr. of Bombay Natural History Society. S. Balichandra was felicitated by Minister Shri Arukh and Minister Panigrahi. Mr. Bishal Kumar Dev, Chief Administrative Secretary, Department of Tourism, delivered the welcome address. Mrs. Mishra, Chairperson, OTDC, and Mr. Harish, Deputy Chief Conservator of Forests, had their say. Tourism Director Shri Sachin Ramchandra Yadav offered his thanks.
