Office of the Labor Commissioner has been cordoned off, demanding compensation for construction workers and other demands

Bhubaneswar: The construction workers' union coordination committee has staged a massive protest in front of the labor commission's office against the indifference in providing coated assistance to registered construction workers and other demands. Construction workers from across the state marched from Master Canteen Square to protest in front of the Labor Commission's office. During the protest, chaired by Rajkishore Mallick, the state co-ordinator of the Coordinating Committee, Vijay Jena, presented the demands of the construction workers and demanded that the government resolve the issue of construction workers.

The Construction Welfare Board has been providing the necessary grants and directives since April last year to provide minimum wages to construction workers, such as registered construction workers, but most construction workers have not been paid. Although the Coordinating Committee has been informed at various times by the Labor Department and the district authorities through protests and letters, it has been nine months since thousands of construction workers have been deprived of assistance.

In addition, many construction workers were unable to re-activate their work cards due to faulty instructions from the Welfare Board. As a result, Karona was denied access to assistance. Therefore, the provision of corona assistance to all registered workers, the provision of assistance to the children of registered construction workers studying in both private technical schools, the provision of undeclared shutdown equipment and safety equipment and bicycles, the capacity building program. To resume registration as closed, to build the necessary infrastructure of the Welfare Board, to levy a 2 per cent cess instead of 1 per cent, to pay a pension of Rs 3,000 to all workers if they are 80 years old by lifting the eight-year period to get a pension, education and other benefits. The delegation met with the Labor Commissioner and handed over the claim.

Rabindra Nath Mohanty, Sudarshan Barik, Loknath Maharana, Manoranjan Sahu, Sheikh Amjad Alli, Karunakar Maharana, Madhusudan Pradhan, Somnath Giri made keynote speeches urging the construction workers to abide by the just demands. Otherwise, the idea will be held day and night next March. The government will be responsible for that.
